Florida State and Wake Forest Headline 2024 Jackson T. Stephens Cup Teams

Jun 11, 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB ANNOUNCED AS HOST VENUE

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS (June 11, 2024) – Defending champions Florida State and Wake Forest lead the field of twelve teams announced today that will be competing in the 2024 Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

This year’s competition will be held at Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club in Nichols Hills, Oklahoma, from October 21-23. Now in its fourth year, the Jackson T. Stephens Cup has established itself as one of the premier tournaments in collegiate golf. The event is named in honor of the late Jackson (Jack) T. Stephens, the former Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club.

“Dad would be very humbled by what we have accomplished in three short years by becoming the premier collegiate golf tournament, said Tournament Chairman Warren Stephens, the son of Jack Stephens. This tournament honors his legacy and ideals. The talented field of student athletes reflects all that he admired about amateur golf. We’re honored for Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club to host this year’s JTS Cup. This club is noted for one of the greatest amateurs to ever play golf, Charlie Coe. He and my Dad were friends, and it is particularly special to me that our event will be there. I know Mr. Coe’s influence on the game will mean a lot to all of the coaches and players.”

Held annually since 2021, The Jackson T. Stephens Cup pairs the nation’s top collegiate golfers with world class venues. In addition to the twelve NCAA Division I men’s and women’s teams, The JTS Cup will again feature prominent players from U.S Military Service Academies and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) who will be competing as individuals.

The men’s field includes University of Arkansas, Florida State University, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, San Diego State University and Southern Methodist University.

The women’s field includes University of Arkansas, Florida State University, University of South Carolina, Oklahoma State University, University of Oregon and Wake Forest University.

Last year, the Wake Forest women’s team avenged its 2022 JTS Cup runner-up finish when Macy Pate made par on the 16th hole to clinch the winning point, winning her match 4&2 after trailing 1 down through the first four holes.

“Wake Forest is looking forward to The Stephens Cup next fall. It is one of our favorite events, contending at outstanding venues, competing among the best collegiate teams, all allowing for unbelievable experiences for these student athletes,” said Wake Forest Women’s Golf Head Coach Kim Lewellen.

Also, back after avenging a runner up finish in 2022 with a win in 2023 is Florida State’s men’s team. The Seminoles defeated the University of Arizona 3&2, with senior Brett Roberts securing the final point on the final hole.

“We are excited to once again be a participant in The Stephens Cup. The Stephens family has done so much for all levels of golf and continues help grow and promote collegiate golf. I am confident this year’s tournament will be something our players (will) never forget” said Florida State Men’s Golf Head Coach Trey Jones.

The competition will feature 54 holes of stroke play completed over the first two days followed by 18-holes of team match play on the final day. The first 54 holes of stroke play will be used to determine the seeding for the men’s and women’s fields for the final day of match play, with the low four men’s and low four women’s teams advancing to match play competition. Stroke-play medalists will be honored on October 22 prior to the start of match play.

The host of this year’s event, the distinguished Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, is nestled in the heart of Nichols Hills, and known for being the oldest and most prestigious private golf and country club in Oklahoma City. Known for being fast and firm, the Perry Maxwell design is widely considered by many to be one of the finest tests of golf in Oklahoma.

The entire Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club membership, and staff are looking forward to the hosting the talented young men and women competing in the 2024 Jackson T. Stephens Cup," said Honorary Chairman David McCubbin. "We’re excited to share our storied history with one of the preeminent events in collegiate golf and provide its competitors, stakeholders and fans with a world-class experience that they’ll remember for years to come.”

Additional invitations to individuals from HBCUs and U.S. Military Service Academies will be announced ahead of the event. The three-day competition will be televised live on GOLF Channel. Tickets will go on sale July 1 on at www.Stephenscup.com.
